What You Need To Know About Self-Hypnosis:
- Hypnosis doesn't necessarily feel like anything.
Sometimes you will experience profound bliss in your body while you're in hypnosis.
Sometimes it feels like nothing is happening. The key to getting results is to do your best and forget the rest. - You don't need to be good at it for it to work.
It's ok to let your thoughts wander. In fact, it's good! Because every time your thoughts wander and you come back to hypnosis you train your mind to get better at every aspect of life.
It's ok if you're not good at visualizing. Just imagine things happening in the same way you daydream. If you ever think about something that's not happening right now, you're daydreaming. You're already great at this. - Self-talk matters more than anything.
If I ask you to do something and you think, "I can't" or "I don't know how", I want you to catch yourself and say, "I can do this!" or "I can just pretend to know." - Don't ask for unwanted things to stop. Ask for what you WANT to happen instead.
Always ask your unconscious mind for what you WANT. State it in the positive.
EXAMPLE: Do NOT say, "I want to stop mindlessly snacking" because the words "mindlessly snacking" create a mental image for your unconscious mind and makes you want to snack EVEN MORE!
Instead, think about how life will be when you no longer mindlessly snack and ask your unconscious mind for that.
EXAMPLE: "I want to easily comfort myself when I'm bored by smiling and changing my posture to remind myself I'm ok." - If you feel stuck, ask one of these empowering questions:
"When this problem is a thing of the past, what will I experience INSTEAD?"
The reason this might seem hard is because we are hypnotized by our problems. We are so entrenched in the problem that we can't imagine life without. As soon as you force yourself to shift your eyes off the problem and imagine life without it, your unconscious mind says, "Oh, I get it!" and immediately begins to shift away from the problem and toward the solution.
If you feel stuck coming up with an answer, refer to #3 above.
Here's another incredibly powerful question you can ask to create immediate shifts.
"What if ....?"
EXAMPLES:
"What if it I CAN do it?"
"What if it could be easy?"
"What if I'm NOT broken?"
"What if I push my plate away instead of finishing?"
"What if I was repulsed by this cigarette?"
Remember, your questions and self-talk make pictures for your unconscious mind. Your unconscious must guide you toward those pictures. This works even if you're not a visual person. Your words and thoughts make pictures.
Watch what you say to yourself and about yourself.
